"Bret D. Pickering, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care for infants, children and adolescents through all of their developmental stages. His expertise includes caring for m...edically fragile children with complex health care needs. Dr. Pickering enjoys working with patients and their families, and considers it a privilege to be welcomed into their lives. He believes in the importance of compassionate care in a supportive, family-friendly environment. As the medical director of the Special Needs Clinic at Rady Children?s Hospital San Diego, Dr. Pickering works with other medical specialists to provide coordinated care aimed at maximizing the quality of life for children with complex, chronic medical conditions. Medically complex children may be technology-dependent or have conditions such as developmental disabilities, multisystem failure, congenital heart defects, neurological disorders, stroke or traumatic coma, and respiratory system abnormalities, among others. As a professor of pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Pickering instructs medical students, residents and fellows. He completed his residency at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Pickering is board-certified in pediatrics.
