I woul...d call it a challenge that prepared me to be a better person. I was born and raised in East Los Angeles, near Boyle Heights, during the 1960s. This was a time of turmoil. I had a choice of either joining a gang or pursuing my education. I was motivated to improve my life because my father became disabled when I was 6 years old. He had to see many physicians during my childhood. I saw my father’s physicians make a difference in our lives, so for this and several other reasons, I chose to become a doctor because.
