I was born in New Jersey into a large extended family. I lived in New Jersey until I went to college in Boston. Growing up, California seemed like a different world to me. Warm weather was always my p...reference, but Florida was a lot closer, so I didn’t visit California until I was a resident in internal medicine in Rochester, New York. Once I saw sunny California, however, I knew I wanted to live here. I moved to Los Angeles in 1984 and began a fellowship in medical oncology at the City of Hope National Medical Center. I joined Kaiser Permanente shortly thereafter and have remained here ever since. In 2005, my family and I moved to San Diego. I have a wife and two grown sons.
