Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Heather graduated with an undergraduate degree in social work from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff before earning a second undergraduate degree in n...ursing from Rush University in Chicago. Most recently, Heather obtained a Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Colorado College of Nursing in Denver. For the last fourteen years, her clinical background has been in pediatric nursing, as well as in the public health sector, volunteering with the Peace Corps and AmeriCorps. During her Peace Corps service, Heather became fluent in Spanish and has found it to be an extremely valuable skill to have in the nursing profession. In 2019, Heather was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study Traditional midwifery and herbal medicine in Ecuador. This experience forced her to value the magnitude of choice and how different options in birth are not readily available to all individuals. Heather believes that access to education, options, and human connection are vital to creating strong and confident parents. Her time working in an out-of-hospital setting solidified her desire to help all families have the ability to find the right setting and care for their pregnancy and birth. Most recently, Heather worked at the only birth center in Colorado Springs providing full-scope midwifery care.“I became a midwife after a transformational experience while pregnant with my daughter. My midwife taught me how to listen to my own body and I wanted to help more women have positive experiences as I did!”Heather, her husband and three children moved to Colorado in 2014. They enjoy taking long road trips in their camper and as a bilingual household, they speak mostly Spanish at home.
