I was born and raised in Southern California and did my undergraduate studies at UC Irvine. My medical studies took me to New York City, where I attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for me...dical school and Columbia University for my surgical training. The U.S. Navy brought me back to Southern California after completing my surgical residency. I started my Navy career as the ships surgeon for the USS Nimitz, followed by an additional year of training at UCLA in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. I returned to San Diego at the Naval Medical Center (Balboa Hospital). During my time when I was attached to the hospital, I was deployed with the 1st Marines to Iraq with a forward surgical unit. I finished my naval career at Balboa Hospital as the director of bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. Once I completed my naval commitment, I came to Kaiser Permanente in San Diego to continue my surgical career.
